About the Maker

Working from her studio in Penryn, Rebecca Rasmussen aka Raz Maker is a designer-maker who primarily works with brass and recycled silver. She loves to combine different metals and materials, adding to the visual interest and unique aesthetic of every piece. The organically formed and textured nature of each piece is inspired by the beautiful Cornish surroundings where Rebecca resides. For example, she hand draws the round spoon cups to reflect nature's imperfect circles found in her surroundings such as limpets, Lichen patches, Pilea and Nasturtium leaves.

Rebecca’s pieces are hand formed using traditional tools and techniques with a focus on the pieces being created for everyday use.

The tools themselves lend individuality to each piece, for example a bench block, damaged through accidental slips of the hammer, creates the texture in a lot of her pieces. She frequently uses rivets in her work. They are a simple yet incredibly intimate method of joining her pieces. She enjoys letting the metal speak for itself through simple, timeless designs.

“I’m motivated by the beauty of form, function and my love of process. My collections reflect a sense of home and belonging, each piece unique; a celebration of objects and their innate beauty.”
