About the Maker
Felix Packer is a craftsman and artist who works from his studio in Falmouth, Cornwall, England. You can find his work dotted across Cornwall and further afield, from the Eden Project to the homes of art lovers nationwide and beyond. Felix specialises in wood and lino cuts, with prints ranging from 10 x 10cm to 1.6 x 2 metres. He also works in a variety of other media such as pen&ink, acrylic, oil, gouache and mixed media. He is also becoming well known for his sculptures in wood and beautiful mosaics. After many years of carving furniture and sculpting in wood, he now attracts commissions for larger works in both private and public settings.
Process
Felix keeps a studio in Falmouth, but also shares printing facilities in nearby Penryn with fellow artists at John Howard Print Studios. That said, you are as likely to find Felix working out of doors as you do inside. Indeed so much so, one may say his main studio is ‘en plain air’. It is here where he finds much of his inspiration for his work, be it woodcuts, paintings, sculptures or mosaics. Inspired by Cornwall’s natural beauty and its countryside, Felix is out sketching whenever he can to catch the atmosphere and famed Cornish light. In particular, it is the coast and cliffs, the creeks and woods, and the wildlife and plants that draw him back time and again. And I am sure you agree, it is this inspiration that makes his work so special.
