About the Maker
After a career in art education Paul Ryan retired to Falmouth to pursue his own practice. Paul has a studio close to the Woodlane campus of the university and draws upon the creative atmosphere that generally envelops Falmouth to inspire his work. Paul has exhibited widely and internationally but has found a home in the Poly where I have enjoyed several successful exhibitions.
Process
Paul’s work involves combining paint, print and collage – the screen-printed elements are applied at the John Howard studio in Penryn. His materials are sourced during walks into the creeks of the Penryn river near Flushing, they usually have painted, weathered surfaces that he adds to in trying to achieve a sense of place and the maritime activity that is associated with it.
